When I was a kid, one of my favorite dips was Sloppy Joe Dip, which, as you can imagine, was not exactly the healthiest thing in the world. But it got me wondering, is it possible to make healthy party dips that are just as decadent??
But I'll tell you just a little more about this Sloppy Joe Dip, to hammer home the fact that this was super duper good, but not super-duper healthy. You start out with ground beef basically drowning in margarine, then you have your diced onions…then, when it's done frying, you drain some of the grease but not all the grease! Then you mix ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and brown sugar together. And this would all maybe be okay if the ingredients were natural, but you know that it was full of sugar and additives!
But that's what makes it taste so good, huh??
And of course we're not done yet! Pour everything together into a 9 x 13 baking pan, and sprinkle a full metric ton of cheese of any kind, got to be Kraft, on top of the meat. You have to serve this dip right away so the cheese is still super amazingly melted, and you get those amazing strings when you're lifting the nacho up from the dip…mmm…Now I eat healthier than that (usually), but I thought I'd still be the nice girl here and basically give you the whole recipe in case you wanted it!!
Anyway, I've moved on to healthy party dips, but there are so many good vegan cheese dips and I want to share everything with you right now!!
1. Vegan 7 Layer Mexican Dip
This one is probably my very favorite. You have vegetarian refried beans, then cover that with vegan queso, then top that with guacamole, then salsa, then bell peppers, then sprinkle with black olives, then add the cilantro on top. Seven layers of total goodness!! Click on the title for the full recipe. But don't worry, if you were interested in the vegan queso, I'm going to tell you how to do that next!
2. Vegan Queso
I swear, when it comes to cheesy yet HEALTHY party dips…it really can be done! I know not all vegan cheese is good, but this is so smooth, creamy, and healthy, you won't believe you're able to have your cheese and eat it too! Basically, all you have to do is soak a cup of raw cashews for 20 minutes to make them easier to blend, then add ingredients like water, salt, turmeric, and lemon juice…blend everything together…and then add salsa. 3. Beet Hummus Dip
Okay, so this one has nothing to do with cheese, but it reflects my desire to really commit to HEALTHY FOOD…Beets are super polarizing, right? You either love them or hate them. But beet hummus is so fresh and colorful, and I'm very confident you'll like the taste too. All you have to do is, take ground cumin seeds and blend them with: cooked chickpeas, one cooked beet, four garlic cloves, a pinch of salt, and 1/3 a cup of water. Then, optionally garnish with sesame seeds.
