Look, I’m NOT saying there’s anything wrong with carbs, but I noticed that every breakfast ever is VERY carb heavy.
Here are some of my easy lower carb substitutes!
And they taste just as good…or better. 😉
It’s tough to find VARIETY in breakfast, right?
Breakfast is traditionally CARB HEAVY and grain heavy. But what if you don’t want that, for whatever reason?
I mean, geez…pancakes and waffles are SOO high in carbs whether you use whole-wheat or white flour.
With toast, cereal, etc. …SO MANY CARBS, overall. Even if you aren’t low carb you may be wondering about it…thinking it’s IMPOSSIBLE to have breakfast that isn’t super carb heavy.
Unless you drink Shakeology, anyway…:)
ALL the recipes I’m going to show you here are super healthy!
So instead of chowing down on preservatives for breakfast, and a LONG list of ingredients you can’t pronounce, try my 3 REPLACEMENTS!!
Pancakes/Waffles
Apple cinnamon waffles…I don’t know about you, but for me, anything with “apple” and “cinnamon” in the title immediately makes my stomach growl! 😉
By using almond flour, flaxseed meal, and some super TASTY apple extract, you’ll have a nutrient and protein-packed start to your day without sacrificing taste. Full recipe here.
As a VEGAN I would replace the whey protein powder with a different, VEGAN-FRIENDLY POWDER like Shakeology Boost: Focused Energy!! 🙂 I would also a few extra tablespoons of FLAXSEED MEAL than what the recipe calls for. Fun fact, 3 tbps ground flaxseed = egg substitute 🙂
And I’d use COCONUT OIL instead of butter.
Oatmeal
If you cook a package from the box with artificial flavors, you’ll often see HYDROGENATED OILS and CORN SYRUP as the first ingredients!!
So, not only are you getting overloaded with refined carbs and gluten…YUCK! but with also with trans fat.
And with HYDROGENATED OIL that raises your bad cholesterol and lowers the good.
So INSTEAD of oatmeal, if you heat up chia seeds and golden flax meal in COCONUT MILK, yum, on the stove…top it off with a dash of cinnamon and honey…t will taste absolutely identical to oatmeal, and have the same texture! Full recipe here.

Don’t forget to add some blueberries and/or strawberries. Can’t you taste those, with the honey, already??
Toast
Those GROSS PRESERVATIVES I talked about before?
As you already know, you basically CAN’T avoid them in typical store-bought bread.
What you might not have known is that, these preservatives have been associated with everything from stomach ulcers to liver problems.
So I am gonna suggest HOMEMADE BREAD!
Even better, you get to be in control of the TASTE, by spicing it up your way. For example, this AMAZING vegan rosemary bread recipe. It’s to die for!!! Except that it’s healthy. 😉
Or try one of my personal FAVORITES, steeping hibiscus flowers in boiling water, and then, instead of just enjoying the hibiscus tea, add honey, lemon juice, and vanilla. Combine that heavenly liquid…to the rest of your bread batter!!!
Get a loaf of that! 😉
The sweet, slightly tart taste is perfect for breakfast!
With just a few slight changes, some of your favorite breakfast foods to enjoy with fruits are now healthier!! And also a little less carb heavy, if you want that.
