This is honestly a HUGE milestone for the Engle family.
SO, some of you know OUR story. I did a really good job until I became a coach of covering up the REALITY of what that meant at home. When we moved here at the PEAK of our debt all we had was a futon, a bed I had from college AND a DUCT TAPED two seater breakfast table. SOME of you make have seen it in the background of my photos up until recently.
When we first got here we lived with everything on the floor for a couple months and we slept on a blowup mattress in our first apartment while I tried to find a job in California. When we finally COULD we bought a bed and a couch on finance – which really broke our hearts because we were just adding debt on top of debt. HOWEVER a dining room table wasn’t a MUST. So, we continued to use our two seater breakfast table in our dining room. Andrew and I got really good at cutting the SHOULDS out of our life, because when you are in debt you try and plan for the next 5 years not for the next weekend!
Recently we have been able to breath a little bit easier since finalizing the last payments and THEN focusing on our savings because we literally had NOTHING last year. To be 27 without a savings but a nice dining table seemed silly to me so we held off again.
We have FAMILY coming in soon and I looked at Andrew yesterday and said “Let’s go buy a dining room table baby!”
BUT ITS SO SO SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. This table represents not just paying off debt or being a real adult (haha) – it represents that feeling of freedom that sometimes you JUST CAN’T quantify. The anxiety when you see the table that you REALLY WANT but settle for the smaller not as pretty one is GONE!!! The feeling of not wanting people at your house (as silly as that sounds, but women, you feel me) is gone.
I kicked that sweet little two seater to the storage unit and am proud to say we are officially the owners of this beautiful dinning room table!
WHO IS COMING FOR DINNER?!?!
This dining room table = freedom.
PS- Mom, don’t get mad at me for not ironing the table runner you gave me!
