Here are some of my TOP TIPS/suggestions for sticking to the 21 Day fix on travel…whether it be WORK or PLAY π
1. SHAKEOLOGY!!!!!– I cannot tell you what a LIFE-SAVOR this was for me recently on a family trip to Vegas. There was temptation EVERYWHERE!!! So, I doubled up π Not only did I get rid of a hangover (yes I said it) quicker than normal. BUT I denied A LOT of treats because I really didn’t want them and I felt more energy than EVER on vacation! Either get the individual packets and stash them in your bag OR zip lock baggies π TSA may look at you sideways but HEY, you need your nutrient dense meal!!!
2. PACK TONS OF PORTABLE SNACKS/Store up when you get to the airport OR when you stop for gas– (Ladies, get those purses READY!) Check out your 21 day fix GUIDE and highlight all of the things that can be “purse size” For example: Nuts, Whole Grain crackers, Individual trail mix packets ( with low sodium), Individual yogurt packets (Greek -plain OBVI), Mozzarella string cheese, carrots, dried veggies and fruits (with no added sugar ) , Individual Oatmeal (I wouldn’t normally recommend instant oats because of the added sugar BUT they are a healthier option when on the go ….
A cool way to store them : Search at Target for the colored ZIP lock bags !!! then you KNOW what color container they go in !!! ………..FOR my OCD friends π
3. CHUG THAT WATER! Do yourself a favor and get a water bottle …fill it up in the hotel whenever you can! This will keep you FULL and your portion sizes SMALL. Drink a full 8 ounce glass of water before you go out to eat π
4. ‘EATING OUT– You should always pre-eat or pre-snack before stepping foot in a restaurant!! So utilize those snacks that you packed and smuggled through TSA! You can call ahead and see if the room has a refrigerator in it π Even if it does not, you can request one …most times FREE OF CHARGE! When you do this you reduce your risk of OVER -EATING because we all know restaurant portions ARE WAY too large in our great country π
While you are at the restaurant make sure you stick to your portion sizes! When you want to indulge make sure its not the only thing on our plate . FOR
EXAMPLE: In Vegas I REALLLLY wanted some Mac and Cheese (haha) So I made sure I ate ALL the greens on my plate before I even touched it …….so I would be somewhat full and not PIG OUT! It worked!
Try and shave off calories when you can. For EXAMPLE: Skip the bun, dressing on the side, ask for the low sodium option, etc. You catch the drift!
5. KEEP ON MOVING!!!!!! I mentioned earlier that you can pack your DVD’s and get your 30 minutes in! (I worked out in a walk-in closet before anyone was awake in Vegas –haha!) BUT MAKE ACTIVITIES a part of your travel !!! Look up cool places to run or be outside! Be a local!!! Just because you are away doesn’t mean fitness leaves your daily routine!
Lastly–> Don’t get discouraged when some of your plans don’t work or if you over-indulge….remember, you are HUMAN and this is an on-going journey. SO, treat it as such! If you mess up, share it in our challenge group! If you have a small victory like not stopping at every single churro stand in NYC , share it ….we want to celebrate with you!!!!!
