Let’s be honest. Its NOT even close to being easy when we are on a NEW or ONGOING Fitness journey or any journey for that matter. It can be hard…like, REALLY HARD. And while we are trudging through the mud it can get very hard to see the end result. It can be hard to even feel happy! BUT I am here to tell you a few tricks to turn that around! These are things that I actively try to remember each day…ESPECIALLY when I am going through a “OH SCREW IT…I WANT CAKE!” period.
1. Don’t depend on things to make you happy. –> Alot of people tend to count on other things to make them happy or add a “if” to their happiness. For example: “I’ll be happy when I lose 10 lbs.” OR “If I get out of work early today..I’ll be happy.” Here is a secret that not everyone knows!!—> You are the only thing your happiness depends on and if you count on an outside factor to MAKE you happy…you are destined for disappointment.
HERE IS WHAT I DO…Each morning when I wake up I take a second to lay there before I touch my phone or wake anyone else up and I say “I am so happy I woke up today :)” It sounds corny …but its true. After losing a best friend suddenly ….I try to remind myself of that fact CONSTANTLY! Then I find something small and tangible to smile about…maybe its the fact that my dogs face is staring at me TWO INCHES from my eyeballs or maybe its that I can see the bright sun creeping in through the blinds…you get the picture. What this does is set you up for success. YOU have already created your happiness and anything else that happens for the rest of the day will be an added bonus!
2. Change what you associate happiness with –> This was a big A-HA moment for me!! I used to associate happiness with sleeping in, having off from work, eating oreos, drinking a glass of wine after a long day…etc. And i was missing the things that SHOULD be making me happy .) Not to say those things can’t be a happiness provoker and that they are bad) BUT let’s be honest we all have google. And science tells us that those things aren’t the best for us in the long run. Instead KALE, BROCCOLI, drinking water, etc. are better for us!!! MAKE THOSE THINGS…things that make you happy! BE HAPPY that you ate a kale salad instead of chinese takeout! This may take some time but if you change your mindset , you will be surprised how it can change your life!
3. What you focus on expands –> SO LATELY I have been having a ton of trouble with this myself. AS SOON as someone tells me what I can and cannot have …I GO CRAZY and I focus entirely on the fact that I can’t have an extra helping of spaghetti and then suddenly its all I can think about!!! It takes over my entire day and I don’t enjoy the food that I can have which eventually leads to failure! TRY THIS—> Instead of thinking you don’t get to have one thing think about all you DO get to have!! Suddenly you will realize that your mind is filled with thank you’s instead of UGHH’s !!!
4. Simply choose it. —> There will come a time in your life when you are simply “sick and tired of being sick and tired” This moment came for me about 7 months ago when I started this journey. I woke up one morning and i thought…ok, no more. I am SICK of having to force myself to work out ..I am SICK of being sad about the way my body looks…I am SICK of not being happy every day! AND I CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY FROM THIS DAY FORWARD! No, it hasn’t been sunshine and rainbows and no it doesn’t work out every day BUT since having that mind-shift!
5. Keep your eye on the prize!!!!—-> So, it’s been a few weeks and you are busting your butt and losing steam. Take a second to look back and remember WHY you started. Is your goal in front of you everyday? IF NOT MAKE IT BE! Print a picture of your goal and glue it to your bathroom mirror! LOL! Or put a picture of that student loan at your desk at work!! LOL! Make sure the goal is BIG, SCARY and RIGHT THERE FOR YOU! This way when you are in those dark moments …Your goal will be there to shine a flashlight in your face!
So do you see the general theme in all of these tips…HAPPINESS BEGETS HAPPINESS!!!!
Be happy, think happy, CHOOSE happy and eventually Happy will BE YOU ! In your fitness journey, in your business, in your LIFE in general. Chase after happiness because it wont find you if you don’t have your OPEN sign displayed on your front door!
